Rodney Anderson has always believed in hard work, commitment to his family and to his community. He attended public schools, all within the GPISD. And he didn’t wander far from home to go to college. He attended the University of Texas at Arlington where he graduated in 1990 with a BBA in Real Estate. He is committed to public education and serving others, and he has volunteered countless hours to the Boy Scouts of America, PTA, the YMCA, the First Free Will Baptist Church, and Rotary International.
Rodney is dedicated to serving the people of House District 105, and he is not a career politician. Having never been in politics before 2010, he made the decision to run for State Representative to truly make a difference and challenge a seemingly unbeatable incumbent in the State Legislature. With extremely hard work and applying solid business strategies to his campaign, he was elected in November 2010 to the Texas House of Representatives.

As a businessman, Rodney believes that strong, solid business principles are desperately needed in Austin. He applied these same principals during his freshman year in the legislature and earned the coveted “Taxpayer Champion” award from Texans for Fiscal Responsibility. He was one of only 28 house members to receive this award. He was also honored by the Texas Land Title Association and was named “Freshman Legislator of the Year” for his work on eminent domain and HOA issues. The Texas Association of Realtors also named him to the “2011 Legislative Honor Roll” for his work on private property rights issues.

Rodney Anderson is committed to using his business experiences over the last 30 years to continue cutting excessive spending and building on Texas’ strong pro-business environment that fosters job growth. He also works to protect our public schools assisting teachers and schools, keeping resources at a local level and eliminating unfunded mandates on our education system.
Rodney is a proud member of the NRA and the National Right To Life. He is an affiliate member of the Arlington Board of Realtors, a member of the board of the YMCA and volunteers for the Boy Scouts of America.

Rodney has deep roots in our community. His commitment to the district is surpassed only by his commitment to his wife and family. He married Heather Jerden in 1991 and they have three children who attended public schools in the Grand Prairie ISD. His grandfather, Bob Harless, moved the family to the area in the early 1950’s. He was a house painter and small business owner in Grand Prairie for more than 40 years. Rodney’s parents, Bennie and Sandy Anderson, have owned a small property management company in Grand Prairie since 1986, and prior to the real estate business, his father worked for many years at a local defense contractor. His father-in-law was a school principal for more than 35 years, and his sister in law is a teacher with over 20 years experience. These incredibly deep roots are why he cares so deeply about our future. This is his home. It is his life. Raising a family with deep roots in the community is important to both he and Heather, and he will work tirelessly to continue to improve the quality of life for the people of Tarrant and Dallas counties.
